Margaret in WWI
When World War I begins Margaret feels the need to help. She does so in a number of ways, including but not limited to:
-
Offering her experience as a nurse to the Red Cross, much as she did in other times of need like on Titanic, and during the Ludlow Massacre
-
Offering $1000/ month to support other nurses and pay for medical supplies
-
She also gave her Newport cottage over to the Newport Chapter of the American Red Cross for use it as a hospital
-
She worked with the Red Cross to set up a relief station in France
-
When she wasn't in France she taught blinded soldiers Braille.

After the war, she was nominated for a French legion of Honor which she received in 1932.
